Nolan, Patsy

The Late Patsy Nolan It is with deep regret that the family and friends learned of the death in America of Patsy Nolan of Barrakilla and O Brenain. Prior to emigrating, Patsy was a valued member of the Ballymac football team in the early sixties. In all the games he played for the parish team, he was courageous, fearless and always gave one hundred per cent. He never gave up trying and was always encouraging his fellow players to greater efforts. In those years there was no league like today, only the Kerryman Shield and the Kerry County Championship and Ballymac took part in both. He was involved in great wins over the Croke's and Austin Stack's in the Kerryman Shield. He also enjoyed victories in the championship over St Brendans but also lost by one point to Castleisland District team. The greatest victory was against a good South Kerry team in Con Keating Park, Ballymac, winning by one point in 1961. Patsy gave an outstanding game that day against the great Micko (O'Connell) from the Island. Ballymac reached the semi-final in 1962, meeting Feale Rangers but the North Kerry side had many county stars on their side and the dream of a final died on that occasion. Patsy left after those matches and was a big loss to the parish. He regularly came on visits home and to meet his former comrades. His loss is widely mourned and sympathy is offered to his family and friends by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Courtesy of the Kerry's Eye 24 January 2008
