Fuller, Vincent

June 13, 2007
The late Vincent Fuller Vincent Fuller, one of Kerry's greatest football supporters, passed away at his residence, Woodlee, Monavalley, on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 in the loving care of his wife, Colette, and daughters Alice and Josephine. As a member of the Kerry Football Supporters Club, Vincent travelled the length and breadth of the country for National League fixtures. From Dungarvan to Donegal he cheered on the boys in the green and gold whenever they took the field. Time present in the company of fellow travellers was always enjoyed and the journey home was shortened by a bar of a song in the bus. But the highlight got him and for all Kerry supporters was a Munster final victory and the lifting of the Sam Maguire in the third Sunday in September. The scramble for tickets was nearly an annual event, but Vincent always managed to come up with the goods. On the morning of the All-Ireland final in 2002, as the bus was passing the Half Way Bar in Listowel, Vincent asked the driver to stop as he had a message to collect. Alighting from he bus he walked across the road, lifted up a stone and underneath were two Hogan Stand tickets. He even had contacts in fairyland he said jokingly. Vincent was born in Glenor, Listowel on April 14, 1933, the youngest of seven children to Stephen and Mai Fuller. Football was in his blood and as a youngster played corner forward with Benis, Listowel. With the introduction of the Parish Rule he put in his lot with the St Senan's Club and was one of the people instrumental in the re-organising of the club in the 1950s. Ever committed he saw the club grow from strength to strength over the years. Vincent and his wife, Colette, bought a farm in Castlelyons, Co Cork in 1956. They lived there before selling in 1970 and returning to Kerry, where he purchased Philo Healy's Bar, Castle Street in 1971. A steady trade was built up over a period of time, before he decided to sell on on in 1976 to the present owners, the Hennessy family. He took over as manager of the Austin Stacks Club in Connolly Park. He held this position for close on 12 months, before deciding to retire from the business. Vincent's wife and children knew of his love, kindness and caring. Quiet and unassuming by nature, he didnt like to be a bother to anyone, but had a stubborn streak when he made his mind up on any issue. He told his family that he had a good and happy life. He had been to over 30 All-Irelands, 18 of which Kerry won. He and Colette celebrated their golden jubilee wedding anniversary with a function in Strokes Lodge. His friends in the Kerry Supporters Club made a presentation to both of them in recognition of the trojan work he had done down through the years. Vincent was pre-deceased by his sons, Stephen, William and John. The removal of his remains took place from his residence on Friday, June 8, 2007 to the Church of Our Lady and St Brendan. Following Requiem Mass on Saturday morning, internment took place in Kilfeighney Cemetery, Lixnaw. He is sadly missed by his loving wife, Colette, daughters Alice and Josephine, grandsons Colin and Kieran, brothers Paddy (Killarney), Bill (USA), David (England), and Alice (Canada), sons in law Stephen and Michael, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. His comrades Eamon, David, Billy and Paschal will have given him a céad míle fáilte at the pearly gates. Suaimhneas siorraí dá hanam dílis. Courtesy of The Kerryman 13 June 2007
