The Late Denis Sheahan Denis Sheahan who died at Heatherlee Nursing Home in Kilcummin on Wednesday, December 22 following a long illness was a well known Glenbeigh butcher who played football for Mid Kerry and Glenbeigh in his youth.Mr Sheahan was 77 years old. A native of Glenbeigh he returned from working in the factories in England in the early 1950s to take over the family butcher and grocery shop in Glenbeigh. Mr Sheahan built up the family business over the years and his family now has butcher shops in Killarney, Kenmare, Cahersiveen, Tralee and Glenbeigh. His late wife Mary, from Caragh Bridge, passed away six years ago. Mr Sheahan is also predeceased by his son Denis, who died three years ago. The couple had nine sons and one daughter Kathleen O'Reilly who lives in America returned for her father's funeral. Mr Sheahan's sons are Tom, a county councillor in Rathmore, Pat in Fossa, Dan in Ovens, Co. Cork, John in Killarney, Mike in Cahersiveen, Jimmy in Killarney, Timmy in Glenbeigh and Billy in Millstreet. Mr Sheahan had a great interest in GAA and boxing and in his younger years played football and Mid-Kerry and Glenbeigh. His son Pat described him as a hard worker and a very good father who was well-respected all over the country. "My father would work all the hours of the day. It was no problem to him - there was no task too much for him. "He was a good father to us all and left us a good legacy, which we are privileged to have. "We were all very proud of him. He travelled all over Ireland and had a highly respected name throughout the country. We will miss him greatly," he said.
