Kerry forward Stephen O'Brien will play in his first county SFC final this weekend and he explained how Kenmare District have gelled this year.
Last year, they were beaten by eventual winners South Kerry at the semi-final stage, but they have gone one better this year as they will face Dr Crokes in the final on Sunday.
O'Brien plays for Kenmare Shamrocks who along with Templenoe make up the District side. However, to complicate matters both sides will meet in this year's intermediate football championship final.
O'Brien revealed to the Kerryman that moving the IFC final until after the county SFC decider was a blessing in disguise.
"The key thing was the intermediate final being put back until after the district were finished," said O'Brien.
"It's taken our thoughts away from it. The rivalry between the clubs is competitive but it is a healthy one and regardless of who wins the intermediate we all know this is the best chance of the district winning a county championship with one of us having to go senior next year."
