Clare have launched an appeal of Cathal O'Connor's red card in the hope of having the influential midfielder available for Sunday's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Kerry.

The Irish Daily Sun reports that the Banner County was officially informed of a proposed one-match suspension for O'Connor yesterday.

He was issued with his marching orders by referee Padraig Hughes for a high tackle on Roscommon's Niall Daly in Pearse Stadium last weekend.

TV replays showed the Clare player tackled the ball and that will form the basis of O'Connor's appeal.

Clare will bring their case to the Central Hearings Committee in a bid to have the ban rescinded ahead of the showdown with the Kingdom.
