James O'Donoghue returned to action with his club Legion yesterday for the first time since undergoing surgery on a troublesome shoulder injury last December.

The former Footballer of the Year scored three points, but couldn't save Legion from a 0-9 to 1-15 defeat to Dr Crokes in the Division 1 league game in Killarney.

O'Donoghue's return is a welcome boost for the Kingdom ahead of the Munster SFC final against Tipperary on July 3.
