Kerry selector Mikey Sheehy has echoed Tomas O'Se's sentiments that Tommy Walsh will return to the Kerry squad.

Walsh made the decision to opt off the squad at the end of the NFL campaign having struggled to make a breakthrough to the side since his return from Australia.

Sheehy admits that things were not going right for Walsh and he told the Kerryman that the Kerins O'Rahillys man made the right decision for the moment.

"It just wasn't happening for him," said Sheehy. "We will probably get stick for not giving him more game time but it just wasn't happening for him.

"In hindsight, it probably would have been better if Tommy had come home and gone back in with his club for a decent period of time and re-adjust to the game.

"There was a huge expectation on him, and maybe between that and trying to get back used to playing the game, and dealing with that injury, it was just too much too quickly."

He added: "I believe it will happen again for Tommy. There's a little pressure off him now. He can enjoy his football with his club, and the door is always open to him with Kerry. My hope is that Tommy will don the green and gold of Kerry again and I expect that he will."
