It was quality over quantity tonight as the 2016 national football league commenced with two mouth-watering Division One clashes.

It doesn't get much bigger than Dublin V Kerry at Croke Park, as the holders hosted the Munster champions in a repeat of last September's All-Ireland final (7pm).

At the same time, Down entertained Ulster rivals Donegal in another intriguing top-flight contest at Newry.

Meanwhile, the hurlers of Dublin and Wexford met in the Walsh Cup final - the curtain-raiser at HQ.
