A life-size bronze statue of the late, great Páidí Ó Sé was unveiled in Ventry yesterday.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by many well-known GAA personalities and friends of the Kerry football legend, who died suddenly in December 2012 at the age of 57. Poignantly, the unveiling fell on the day of Páidí's 60th birthday.
Legendary broadcaster Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh acted as Master of Ceremonies at the event which got underway at 3pm. Former Kerry manager Mick O'Dwyer joined Páidí's son Pádraig Óg in unveiling the statue to the public for the first time.
Clare sculptor Seamus Connolly was commissioned to create the sculpture which stands outside the family pub at the crossroads in Árd a'Bhothair, not far from where Páidí was laid to rest in Fionn Trá's Reilig Naomh Chaitlíona.
Coiste Cuimhneachain Paídí Ui Shé raised approximately €70,000 to make the project a reality.
