GAA in the Cayman Islands

See a special GAA report on the Cayman Islands in the Western Caribbean Sea where Dave O'Connell's story provides more evidence of the spread of Gaelic Games across the globe.

The Kerryman is Chairperson of Cayman Islands GAA which enjoyed its best ever year in 2014. "We have 173 members and it's growing. I get an email every week from people asking to sign up," said Dave.

Most of the Irish members work in finance, law or education on Cayman, while many non-Irish have been persuaded to join in. Together, they played as a national team at the 2014 North American Finals in Boston.

"Our womens team lost narrowly to San Diego and our men were beaten after extra-time by Raleigh (North Carolina) but we showed we can compete," says Dave. "I think we've put ourselves on the map."
