Kerry's Tomas O'Se.

Kerry great Tomas O Se has described the use of performance enhance substances as 'reckless'.

Following on from the revelation that a Monaghan footballer has tested positive for a banned substance, the five-time All-Ireland winner told The Irish Daily Star: "The ethos of the GAA is amateur and there are ways of getting an edge on an opponent but taking a performance enhancing substance is not one of them.

"It's absolutely farcical if that starts creeping into the game. I think it's reckless. I think it's wrong.

"There's no way they could know what they're at if they are using performance enhancers.

"I don't know how serious the story is or what exactly is supposed to have happened and I can't really comment on the story.

"But, in general, there is no place for any type of doping in the GAA."

He continued: "Look, I think certain remedies can be taken for minor ailments like colds and flu, and even I knew that when I was playing that there were certain medications I couldn't take.

"I would not even take Panadol extra, or Anadin extra or anything with extra in the name.

"But, if they were taking extra stuff they knew exactly what they were doing and what effect it would have on the body and they would know surely that it was wrong."
