Kerry edged a high-scoring encounter against Meath in Tralee while London overcame holders Kildare at the second time of asking.
The Kingdom were forced to dig deep in the second-half against the Royals before prevailing on a scoreline of 1-23 to 2-18.
Colm Harty had the sliotar in the back of the Meath net inside the opening minute but that set-back failed to knock the visitors out of their stride and they received a boost when the hugely influential Jack Regan raised a green flag via the penalty spot.
Meath were full value for their 1-13 to 1-9 half-time lead but whatever manager Eamonn Kelly said to his Kerry troops during the half-time team-talk had the desired effect as they came from behind to claim the spoils.
A late Willie McGrath goal narrowed the gap to two points but Meath ran out of time.
Meanwhile, in Newbridge, London inflicted a 3-16 to 0-19 defeat on 14-man Kildare in their round 1 replay.
The sides finished level after extra-time in Ruislip last Saturday but it's the Fergus McMahon coached side which advances to a Round 2A clash against Derry next Saturday.
A first half brace from Martin Duggan parachuted London into a 2-8 to 0-9 lead at the break and the Clare native wrapped up a memorable win in the 65th minute when completing his hat-trick.
The Lilywhites - who lost Paul Divilly to a red card midway through the second half - will aim to bounce back when they travel to Mayo next weekend.
At Ballycran, it finished 1-19 to 0-13 in Down's favour against Wicklow.
The Mourne County experienced little difficulty in disposing of the Garden County's challenge and led by 0-14 to 0-5 at the halfway stage.
