Our senior ladies team are in action on Sunday in their final game of the Tesco HomeGrown National League. Monaghan provide the opposition as they travel to Castleisland, game is 2pm. Kerry put up a great battle in Mayo 2 weeks ago & came away with full points. Manager Alan O'Neill was happy with the performance, but more so the reaction of the players who after a disappointing under par performance against Galway weeks before bounced back very well. Kerry will be without the services of Louise Galvin who is away with Mini 7's Irish rugby team. However there is healthy competition for places on the team & we have a relatively clean bill of health. Both teams will be keen on getting full points in this game as semi final spaces & position on table is important. Monaghan are currently 3rd spot with Kerry 4th. Dublin are also coming up the rear in 5th spot but they have a difficult tie against Cork so permutations difficult to predict. A great game is in store in Castleisland, the home of Captain Cait Lynch & also home to current All Ireland Ladies Intermediate Club Champions.
Congratulations to the Kerry U16 team who defeated Waterford in their first round clash in Cork. Kerry were slow to start, with Laoibhse Walmsley coming off injured early in the game. Waterford were getting a bit of a stranglehold of midfield but when Kerry got to grips in the middle third & feed ball to our forwards who were in flying form, it swung towards the Kerry girls. Final score Kerry 5-09 Waterford 2-10. Goal scorers Hannah O'Donoughe *2, Aoife O'Callaghan *2 & Elizabeth Mohan.
Best of luck to our Minor team who have a busy week ahead of them. On Wednesday they face favourites Cork, in Delaneys GAA in Blackpool Cork 7pm. On Saturday they play Waterford with venue & time TBC. The minors had a tough first outing against Tipperary, with Kerry missing a few key players due to injury etc. However they have worked hard since that game & learned a few lessons to bring forward with them.
On Easter Weekend we had a full schedule of games in the Rhyno Quality Feeds Co. League. In Division 1 Scartaglen who had a difficult start to the league, came away winners against a good Rathmore side, with the adage of goals winning games coming through for them on final score line Scartaglen 3-09 Rathmore 0-15. Laune Rangers at home came away with vital points for them, in a high scoring affair against Southern Gaels. Final score Laune Rangers 4-10 Southern Gaels 4-18. In Division 2 Na Gaeil who struggled in their previous game against Listowel Emmetts, bounced back with a good win over Finuge/St Senans, who were the pace setters in the Division 2, final score Na Gaeil 5-09 Finuge/St Senans 1-08. In the final Div 2 game the battle between Black & Amber sides, Listowel Emmets travelled to Dr Crokes & made it worthwhile coming away full points, Dr Crokes 2-09 Listowel Emmets 5-08. In Division 3 John Mitchels had a convincing win over Spa score 5-10 to 2-08. While in the other game Causeway beat neighbours Abbeydorney on a score line of 4-12 to 2-03. In Division 4 a youthful Fossa travelled to North Kerry side Beale & were very worthy winners on a scoreline of Beale 1-05 Fossa 3-14.
