Pat McEnaney has jumped to referee Eddie Kinsella's defence in the wake of criticism from Dublin manager Jim Gavin.

Kinsella handed out seven yellow cards, four black cards and one red card during Dublin's defeat by Kerry in Killarney last Sunday and, afterwards, Gavin questioned a number of the referee's calls.

He claimed Kerry players had influenced the referee but McEnaney - whose three year tenure as referees chairman has come to an end - didn't see it that way.

"I analysed the game fully and I thought he was flawless in every card that he picked," McEnaney told The Irish Daily Star.

"Where we have been rightly criticised for not getting the deliberate pull down right, Eddie was 100 per cent on the nail.

"I think when Jim reflects on that and goes home and does the analysis that he just might come up with a different answer."
