A wonderful night was had on Saturday night at the Annual Awards Night in the Killarney Heights Hotel. Clubs who won leagues & championships were awarded with their medals including Munster & All Ireland Intermediate club champions Castleisland Desmonds. In addition the All Ireland winning U14 team & management were honored & presented with their medals. Guests of honor included competition sponsor Educate.ie Tony Walsh who presented the teams with their medals & also Aoife O'Brien of Kerry Group.
Castleisland Desmonds are on the hunt again for silverware as they face Southern Gaels in the Rhyno Quality Feeds Div 1 County Final on Sunday at 1.30 in a venue TBC. Southern Gaels were defeated in this year's county championship final by a combination side of Desmonds/Duagh will be looking for some form of redemption. The South Kerry side was slightly unlucky to loose on the day in September as they came from behind to launch a great comeback in the second half but clock ran against them. Desmonds will have gained much more experience since that game in September on their All Ireland journey where players like Cait Lynch, Leanne Mangan & Andrea Murphy shone. However they will be without the Duagh contingent of players which will leave them struggling for replacements if required. Southern Gaels have players of the caliber of Deirdre Corridan, Caroline Kelly & Megan O'Connell among their ranks. An exciting game in prospect, too close to call.
