Kirby wins battle of the Limerick legends

Limerick's Gary Kirby

Gary Kirby got one over on fellow Limerick hurling legends Ciaran Carey and Mark Foley in yesterday's Munster club IHC semi-final at Austin Stack Park.

Kirby's Bruff side defeated Kerry senior kingpins Lixnaw, who are managed by Carey (his management team includes Foley), by 2-13 to 2-10 to set up a Munster final meeting with Cappoquin. The Waterford side edged out Clare's Feakle by 1-14 to 0-16 in the other semi-final.

A Chris Browne goal had given Bruff a slender 1-5 to 0-7 lead at the break before the introduction of former Kerry football star Paul Galvin - who appeared on The Late, Late Show on Friday night - appeared to give Lixnaw a new lease of life.

Goals from James Flaherty and Mike Conway put Lixnaw 2-9 to 1-10 up, only for Bruff to reply with a goal of their own from Shane Finn, and they eventually won by three points.
