Gaelic football fans who stayed in last night got a treat with the appearance of former Footballer of the Year Paul Galvin on The Late Late Show.

The Kerry star sat down with Ryan Tubridy to promote his book - 'Paul Galvin - In My Own Words' - which is on sale now and, during the interview, he reflected on the infamous 2008 incident involving Tipperary referee Paddy Russell.

Captain of the Kingdom at the time, the industrious half-forward was hit with a six month ban for slapping the referee's notebook out of his hands against Clare.

Interestingly, he doesn't regret his action, describing it as a 'positive' in his illustrious football career.

"I probably changed my personality a little bit. I probably readdressed myself as a footballer first of all, in terms of how I was approaching the game.

"I just changed my approach, I became more relaxed about it, and I think it was a very positive thing.

"Because it improved my performance and allowed me to express myself as a footballer."

Engaged to Today FM presenter Louise Duffy, Galvin also revealed that his his mother and future mother-in-law were meeting for the first time at the show.

"I don't do things by halves. My lot met her lot tonight for the first time. I hope the wedding is still on after the show," he quipped.
