Standing up to the Dublin juggernaut at Croke Park is a picnic, says Karl Lacey, compared to "war zone" that is the labour ward!

The 2012 Footballer of the Year became a father in the days before their shock All-Ireland SFC semi-final victory over the metropolitans when his girlfriend Ciara gave birth to their son Noah.

"That's for sure," The Four Masters clubman said to The Belfast Telegraph. "The labour ward - that's a real war zone."

A second Celtic cross souvenir at the expense of Kerry tomorrow would round off a memorable year for Donegal's attacking half-back.

"There are special moments in your life. There is your football and general life.

"Football is winning Ulster Championships and All-Irelands. In your life you have your family. I have a beautiful son now.

"But I would like to add an All-Ireland medal to my back pocket. That would be a year to remember."
