Cuthbert claims Kerry eased up

Brian Cuthbert isn't getting carried away with Cork's emphatic victory over Kerry last Sunday, maintaining that the Kingdom eased up in the second half.

The 2-18 to 1-11 win in Tralee was the Rebels' biggest over their old rivals since 1990, but Cuthbert is convinced that Kerry - who only trailed by a point at half-time - took their foot off the gas when it became clear that a place in the Allianz League semi-final was beyond them.

"We played against the wind in the first half and went in ahead after Paul (Kerrigan) got the goal and the wind was quite strong in the second and we just put it away," the Cork manager recalled in the Irish Daily Star.

"We got a bit ahead and Kerry knew they were playing for nothing anyway because they probably heard what was going on in the Derry-Mayo game. I think they pulled up the handbrake a small bit."

The Bishopstown clubman's expects Sunday's semi-final against Dublin to be every bit as free-flowing as their earlier Allianz League encounter at Croke Park, which the Rebels won by two points.

"I'd say the way Dublin play and the way we play, once the ball is thrown in it's going to be hammer and tongs," he predicted.
