HL2A final: Kingdom claim silverware

April 07, 2014

St Brendan's and Kerry star John Egan. INPHO
Kerry 3-16
Carlow 3-13

A strong second half showing saw Kerry overturn a six-point half-time deficit and claim the HL2A silverware at Carlow's expense in Semple Stadium.

Goals from Colm Harty, John Egan and Shane Nolan (penalty) sent the Kingdom on the road to victory while the Barrowsiders were left to rue a missed 69th penalty by Denis Murphy.

Carlow enjoyed the better of the opening 35 minutes and goals from Marty Kavanagh (2) and Murphy parachuted them into a 3-6 to 0-9 interval advantage.

It turned out to be the proverbial games of two halves, however, as Eamonn Kelly's troops took over in pole position after the resumption.

Carlow's hopes of rescuing something out of the fixture evaporated when Murphy's penalty was saved with one minute of normal time remaining.

Kerry will now take on Offaly with a place in Division 1B next season up for grabs.
