Shannon, Maura Elizabeth

The death took place of Maura Elizabeth Shannon, Johnard Court, London and- late of 8 Mitchel's Court, Tralee on December 31st. Maura had been in England for over fifty years but returned home to visit family at least twice a year.

Maura was born in Spring Lane, Boherbee - where Trophy World now stands - on the 25th of March 1937, to Thomas and Molly Shannon. She
was the second eldest of four, the others being Anne (now deceased), Patsy and Billy. The family moved to the Mitchel's Court when Maura was young and she adored living there.

Full of life and mischief, she was known as 'the little foxy one' when she attened Moyderwell for her schooling. At the age of fifteen, she played on the Kerry Camogie team and when her days in the classroom ended, she began working in McCann's shop in Ashe Street ,working with Ms. Gleeson. The following year she emigrated to England at the age of sixteen, first settling in Reading for three years working in the Ideal Cafe
before moved to London where she remained up until the time of her death.

She visited home regularly and liked to visit her favourite pub in Tralee, Eugie Creagh's (The Ballymac Bar). Her favourite saying was "one for the road" and she was also a dab hand at darts.
Maura adored her two dogs JR and Goldie. Her three passions in life were the love of her family, her companion Olive and her beloved dogs. On Tuesday, Maura's favourite song The Homes of Donegal was sung at her graveside by Mary Higgins, in Rath Cemetery. She is survived by her loving sister Patsy, loving brother Billy and her constant companion and friend for over fifty years Olive Hill, Olive's sister Barbara, sister-in-law Margaret, brother-in-law, Paul, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand- nieces, extended family and friends.
