Michael's friendly face missing from Killarney

The friendly face of the late Michael Flynn, Elm Grove, is sadly missed on the streets of Killarney since his unexpected death on Monday, April 26th, at the age of 46.

A proud Killarney man who loved his native town, Michael was widely known as a good-natured man who enjoyed saluting his friends as he walked home through the town after a day's work.

The removal of Michael's remains took place from O'Shea's Funeral Home to Saint Mary's Cathedral on Thursday, April 29th. His funeral took place to Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery on Friday after 10.30am Requiem Mass.

Born on September 27th, 1963, Michael was a son of Mary and the late Paddy Flynn, Dromadeesirt. His father was a well-known taxi driver.

Walking home in the evenings from Presentation Monastery Primary School, Michael liked to memorise the registration numbers of cars. He knew the numbers of all the cars in the neighbourhood by heart.

A gentle giant, Michael had great physical strength. Working part-time as a handyman, he was skilled at painting, gardening and many kinds of manual work. Many people depended on him for a helping hand.

His big passion was Kerry football. He tried to get to all of the league games and never missed a semi-final or an All-Ireland. Given the many friends he had, he was never short of a lift to a game but he always took the train to Dublin for the All-Ireland.

Prior to his death, he had really been looking forward to the Kerry v Tipperary game. Given his good health, his sudden death was a cause of great shock.

At the town level, he was a Legion supporter. He was also an ardent Liverpool fan.

Sunday night was reserved for his outings to the cinema. He collected a lot of Bond movies and also copies of Inspector Morse's Mid-Summer Murders and the Inspector Poirot mystery series.

Michael was a good-humoured man who could always be relied on to keep a promise. Nobody ever had a bad word to say about him. He was much-loved by his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. The Flynn family would like to thank everyone for the cards, wreathes and many expressions of sympathy, and for attending the removal and funeral.

Michael will be sadly missed by his mother, Mary, his step-mother, Catherine, his brothers and sisters, Margaret, Noel, Dan, John, Patrick, Connie, Jeremiah, Marie, Gerard, Geraldine and Tessie, and by his nieces and nephews.
