Munster club JHC: Blackrock and Fermoy to face off

23 November 2009

Limerick champions Blackrock will meet their Cork counterparts Fermoy in the Munster club JHC final after their semi-final wins yesterday.

Blackrock became the first club from the Treaty County to reach the final of this competition when they edged out Aherlow by 0-11 to 0-9 in deplorable conditions at Aherlow. The Tipp side were leading by 0-7 to 0-6 when midfielder Barry Grogan was sent off for a second yellow card midway through the second half.

They continued to lead by 0-9 to 0-8 before a late Blackrock surge yielded decisive scores from subs Barry O'Shaughnessy and Kevin Palmer and Richie Mulcahy.

In the other semi-final at Kilgarvan, Cork's Fermoy were made to battle all the way for their 1-12 to 1-8 victory over the home side.

Kerry champions Kilgarvan dominated the opening the quarter to lead by 1-4 to 0-2. However, Fermoy scored six unanswered points to go into the break on level terms, 0-8 to 1-5, and they made sure of victory when Paudie Shanahan netted 10 minutes from the end.
