Joy, John

The late John Joy John Joy of Crough, Lisselton passed away on Wednesday the 10th September at Kerry General Hospital in his fifty eighth year. He was the son of Patrick and Bridie Joy of Knockenagh, Listowel. John was a devoted father to David and Paul, a loving husband to Mary and grandfather to James. When John left school he went to work on McElligott's farm before heading to London. On his return John worked in the Burlington in Tralee before joining Kerry Group in Listowel where he continued to work for twenty-eight years. John was a very keen follower of all sports, with GAA being his greatest passion. John was highly involved with his local club Ballydonoghue where he was a keen fundraiser, through selling tickets for the local lotto and going out on the Wren to help raised money. John also followed Kerry all over the country, loved going to all the games, and loved nothing better than discussing the games over a pint at Mona's his local pub. John also had great interest in greyhounds. He was a member of a syndicate with some of his workmates. They enjoyed great success with the highlight winning the Longford Derby in 2003 and getting to the final in the prestigious Laurels the following year. John's Requiem Mass on Friday 12th September, was concelebrated by Fr Lawlor and Fr Brick in St Teresa's Church, Ballydonoghue. Interment took place in Lislaughlin Abbey. John will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends. - Kerry's Eye, 18th September 2008
