CIT 2-20
Mary Immaculate 0-12
CIT have secured an immediate return to the Sigerson Cup after easing their way to the second-tier third-level colleges senior football championship title this evening.
Eoin Lavers and Gavin O'Brien scored goals in either half at DCU's Sportsgrounds as the Cork college cruised to an emphatic 14-point victory over Mary Immaculate.
The winners made a flying start to this Trench Cup final by racing into a 0-5 to 0-0 lead before Cork youngster Cathail O'Mahony opened Mary I's account in the 10th minute.
O'Mahony was his side's top scorer over the 60 minutes when sending over 0-9 (seven frees), including 0-5 in the first half at the end of which they trailed 1-10 to 0-6.
Only a point separated the sides on 22 minutes but CIT hit 1-3 unanswered with Doheny's defender Lavers getting forward for the opening goal.
When Kerry man O'Brien raised a second green flag in the 40th minute there was no way back for Mary I who were outscored by 0-9 to 0-3 thereafter.
