Flynn: it's a ruthless aul' division

March 17, 2018

Kerry's Jack Barry and Daniel Flynn of Kildare go up for possession during the Allianz League Division 1 clash in Tralee

Kildare's chances of pulling off a relegation Houdini act evaporated in Tralee tonight and Daniel Flynn believes their profligacy in front of the posts is to blame for their slide back down the ladder.

The Johnstownbridge man produced a 'man-of-the-match' performance but was it wasn't enough to prevent the Lilywhites from slipping to a sixth straight defeat.

"It's disappointing. We were very tight there in a couple of games but that's it, it's a ruthless aul' division," he commented to eirSport shortly after the final whistle.

"Turnovers and being wasteful in front of goal killed us. It has been the story all league. Our conversion is really letting us down. We're getting into good positions, we're just being very wasteful with the ball when we have it."

A return to Division 2 beckons for Flynn and his team-mates in 2019…

"We'll go back to Division 2 and see what happens. Everyone wants to be playing Division 1, you want to be playing big games week in, week out. I don't think it will have too much of an impact on the development (of the team).

"We were there last year. You just take every game as it comes, you can only play who is in front of you but it would have been nice to stay in Division 1."
