Fionn Fitzgerald is set to captain the Kerry footballers in 2018 after being nominated for the role by county champions Dr Crokes.
The corner back will replace his Dr Crokes club-mate Johnny Buckley, having served as vice-captain in last year's championship. Fitzgerald had skippered Kerry to the Allianz League Division 1 title in April before Buckley was appointed captain for the championship.
The 27-year-old had the honour of lifting the Sam Maguire alongside Kieran O'Leary when the Kingdom last won the All-Ireland in 2014.
Kerry are one of the last remaining counties, along with Kilkenny, whereby the county champions have the right to nominate the captain of the senior inter-county team.
