The timing and structure to the Kerry club and county football championships look set to undergo a significant change in 2018.

A County Championship Review Committee have put forward a series of proposals which was discussed at this week's county board meeting. Following lengthy discussions, it was agreed by delegates that the club football championships are to be started in April and concluded by early May.

It was also agreed that the county SFC would start in September and finished in October, while the county senior hurling championship would be played across the months of June, July and August.

This is all to fit in with the new structures in inter-county football and hurling which see the year start earlier and finish earlier too.

The current format in the football championships has been retained, but there would be extra 'extra time of two five-minute periods played to improve the chances of a result on the day.
