Sweetnam returns to his roots

Munster Darren Sweetnam

Munster rugby star Darren Sweetnam will return to his GAA roots tomorrow when he performs the official opening of his home club's new facilities.

Sweetnam will cut the ribbon on the new floodlit Astroturf pitch and hurling wall at Doheny's Sam Maguire Park in Dunmanway at 4pm. The facilities cost €190,000 to develop and will cater for the needs of all the club's teams.

The only Doheny man to ever play senior hurling for Cork, Sweetnam was regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the game before joining Munster Rugby in 2012. His performances for Munster this season have led to him being called up to the extended Ireland squad for the November internationals.
