Michael Duignan was a proud man after guiding Ballinamere-Durrow to their first ever Offaly MHC title yesterday.

The RTE pundit, who has been living in Durrow on the Offaly-Westmeath border for the last 13 years, managed his adopted club to a dramatic 1-13 to 0-15 victory over Kilcormac/Killoughey at O'Connor Park with fellow Offaly great Daithi Regan by his side. Duignan, whose sons Sean and Brian starred in the historic success (Sean was also captain), enjoyed many victories with St. Rynagh's and the Faithful County during his own playing career, but reckoned this was the sweetest of all given the challenges Ballinamere-Durrow have faced to keep hurling alive down the years.

"In all the wins I've been involved with it, it's probably the most special," he told Midlands 103.

"I've been with these lads since U8 and it was always a dream to win a minor championship. We took some hidings along the way... I'm so proud of each and every one of them."
