Gary Kirby singled veteran Barry Foley out for praise after he helped Patrickswell land their first Limerick SHC title in 13 years yesterday.

The 39-year-old, who hit two points in the facile 1-26 to 1-7 victory over Ballybrown, played alongside Kirby when the 'Well triumphed in 1993, '95, '96, '97, '00 and '03.

"We've a lot of young lads, but special praise has to go to Barry Foley," Patrickswell manager Kirby said in the Irish Examiner.

"Barry is 39 and didn't have a good final last year. It could have been very easy for him to hang up the boots, but no. He stuck with it and his performance today was great."

The Limerick legend was delighted to see the 'Well end their long wait for John Daly Cup honours.

"It super and it's just unbelievable really, in fairness. I played in the last one we won so it's been a long time. I'm just thrilled. We are over the moon. We are all proud Patrickswell men and it's been a long time. It's just great to have it back," he added.
