Holders Sarsfields and four-time All-Ireland champions Portumna were both knocked out of the Galway SHC at the weekend.

A Mike Mullins goal just after half-time inspired Gort to a 1-16 to 1-10 quarter-final victory over Sarsfields yesterday. Late points from Keith Killilea and Jason Grealish were also crucial as the south Galway outfit set up a semi-final against last year's runners-up Craughwell, who defeated Tommy Larkins by 1-20 to 0-16 on Saturday, with Jamie Ryan scoring the only goal 12 minutes from the end.

The absence of Joe Canning through injury proved costly for Portumna as they succumbed to 2013 All-Ireland champions St. Thomas' on a 4-15 to 2-25 scoreline on Saturday. Darragh Burke and Sean Skehill both found the net in the first half, while Ronan O'Meara (penalty), Kevin Hayes, Damien Hayes and Paddy Dolphin were the Portumna goal-scorers.

Loughrea will provide the semi-final opposition for St. Thomas' after they edged out Mullagh by 0-16 to 0-15 in the other quarter-final at Duggan Park on Saturday.
