Tipperary selector John Madden hopes the sending off of John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer on Sunday can act as a learning curve for the Killenaule clubman this summer.

O'Dwyer was sent off in the 14th minute of Tipp's Munster SHC semi-final victory at Semple Stadium after lashing out at Limerick opponent Richie English and Madden is confident that the incident can fuel the 24-year-old's response once he returns from suspension.

"'Bubbles' knew he made a mistake, he reacted and it was a rush of blood to the head," Madden told the Jones' Road Podcast.

"I suppose he's a target in around any group of players and that's the way it is. If you're a good forward there's no fella going to let you walk past them and score points and goals all day long.

"It was in the heat of the battle, but he reacted and we spoke to him afterwards. We'll get him back up again and this could be a brilliant learning curve for 'Bubbles'."
