Cavan's champion handballer Paul Brady is one of Richie Hogan's sporting heroes.

Hogan was a superb handballer himself as a teenager and he appreciates the tremendous dedication Brady - who also played senior football for the Breffni County - has invested to remain at the top of his sport for over a decade:

"I follow lads who are really dominant," the Danesfort clubman told The Irish Independent. "The likes of Tiger Woods, McIlroy and a fella - I don't know if you know him or not - Paul Brady, the Irish handballer who has dominated his sport for twelve years.

"He is an example of a lad who is 34, 35 and he's won so much, yet I still see him drive from Cavan to DCU to go to the gym because it's the best gym around him.

"I don't know how many miles that is but he does that three days a week or drives into Dublin to play someone who is pretty competitive in a challenge game. That's the sort of stuff he does. You (ask) what separates these guys from the average guys. It's things like that.

"He's won ten All-Ireland doubles, ten All-Ireland singles, four World Championships in a row - the first Irish man to win one, never mind four. But you see what he puts into it. Endless, endless, endless hours of work."
