Cork County Board secretary Frank Murphy has rubbished the idea of moving the All-Ireland club football and hurling finals from their traditional St Patrick's Day slot.

Speaking at last night's County Board meeting in response to efforts by the GAA to condense county and club fixtures into a calendar year, the long-serving official asked: "Why are we amending something which has been such a success?

"These have drawn crowds of 30,000 or 40,000 and to think they'd be replaced by a league game in Croke Park is a farce," he said according to today's Examiner.

"I'd also ask, who came up with the bright idea of having All-Ireland replays the following Saturday?

"It's easy knowing they never had to distribute tickets."
