Carlow forward Marty Kavanagh believes that they are playing at a higher intensity this year.
The Barrowsiders eased to victory over NUI Galway in the Walsh Cup last weekend and now they can look forward to a semi-final meet against Galway.
And Kavanagh who gave a man of the match performance by scoring 0-11 against the students was keen to praise the team as a whole.
Speaking to the Carlow Nationalist he said: "The performance was what mattered. That was the main thing. This is only January but there was an intensity there.
"It's great to get to a Walsh Cup semi-final so we are looking forward to facing Offaly or Galway. Either side are great hurling names. We are doing a lot of talking about wanting to be up there so we have to prove ourselves and try to beat them."
