As the money continues to flood in, chairman Ned Quinn has described the Kilkenny hurlers as "the team that keeps on giving".

Convention this week learned that the Black & Amber's finances have never been in a healthier state, largely due to the Cats' participation in the latter stages of the national hurling league over the past five years.

Kilkenny have contested the last four league finals, winning the last three, and their average take from the last five leagues is a healthy €135,000.

They took in €109,311 in 2011, when Dublin defeated them in the final, and their coffers were swollen to the tune of €126,932, €129,948 and €232,901 in 2012, '13 and '14 respectively.

On the downside, Kilkenny's take from the national football league is zero.
