Inside managers is "the ideal" that clubs and counties should be aspiring to according to GAA President-elect Aogan O Fearghail.

Speaking at last week's Cavan convention, the Drumgoon clubman, who will take over in the top job from Liam O'Neill at next year's congress, said: "If in times you have to stray outside your county, fine, but it's fantastic in Cavan - there is a great resurgence in Cavan GAA and every manager is a Cavan man.

"That is the ideal to be aiming for. If you can do that in your club, that is the ideal.

"It [the rate of expense] is 50c a mile and people are entitled to that, they should not be out of pocket.

"But we should not be gaining from it. We should not be looking to see can we get more. But there are tales of people who maybe do.

"If would be wrong if the good GAA volunteers of Cavan were selling envelopes to look after someone. But most clubs don't do that."
