Ryan to keep changes to a minimum

Tipperary assistant manager Michael Ryan doesn't intend making sweeping changes when he assumes the managerial reins from Eamon O'Shea in 2016.

The 1991 All-Ireland winning defender will be promoted to the top job at the end of next season after being ratified as O'Shea's successor at last night's county board meeting in Thurles. In the meantime, he will continue as O'Shea's number two.

"Of course there'll be subtle changes, but they'll only be that; you can't change the voice at the top of the room without there being some change," Ryan tells the Irish Daily Star.

"But in terms of the important structures, they're in place. We want to continue with those, build on them, and try to make them better as opposed to changing them.

"But now that it's going to be done, we need to park it and forget about it. This time next year is time enough really to be making plans and that kind of thing."

The manager-in-waiting added: "I feel a bit funny even talking about it, to be honest. It's not relevant, 2015 is what's relevant now."
