The man who attacked former Footballer of the Year Paul Galvin brandishing a hurl on Sunday is said to be "very sorry" for his actions.

Kilmoyley club officer Paddy O'Sullivan swung a hurl at the former Kerry star before the start of the second half of the Kerry SHC final, in which Galvin was representing Lixnaw.

Club secretary John Nolan says O'Sullivan greatly regrets the incident: "I didn't see it because I was still in the dressing room at the time. I didn't see the initial incident, nor the one that happened with Paddy," he told The Irish Examiner.

"The club are dealing with it and we're awaiting the County Board's decision. It was unfortunate, very unfortunate. The man involved is very sorry. He regretted almost as soon as it happened. I was speaking to him that night and he put his hand up. He was wrong.

"We'll be looking after it ourselves as well as the County Board. He might have had his reasons at the time but he knew almost straight away that it wasn't the thing to do.

"It didn't affect Paul Galvin's performance anyway. Whatever did happen it didn't affect his hurling. He had a fine game overall but he had a great second half."
