Outgoing Waterford minor manager Derek Lyons has blasted the county's CCC over the scheduling of club games as he tried to prepare the side for the All-Ireland MHC semi final.

The Munster side lost out to eventual winners Kilkenny at the penultimate stage of the campaign and in his end of year report to the county board, Lyons stated that some of his players had to play adult hurling in the build up to the semi final, which was far from ideal preparation.

"We were very much hampered by the issue of adult club championship games," the Waterford News & Star quotes Lyons as stating at the meeting.

"I firmly believe that the decision to fix these games was ill advised. I still find it hard to comprehend that at 7pm on the day before the biggest game of the year I didn't know if one of the players would be playing a club championship game.

"This was nothing short of disgraceful and wouldn't happen in any other county."
