Michael Cahill is in a race to be fit for Sunday's All-Ireland senior hurling championship final.

The Tipperary defender sat out the quarter-final victory over Dublin with a knee injury and played only the last five minutes of the semi-final win over Cork.

The 25-year-old has been struggling to get back to full fitness ahead of the September 7th showdown with Kilkenny and is understood to have suffered a slight setback last week.

The latest word on the Thurles Sarsfields clubman, who has been working with physio John Casey, is that he should be fit to play some part but is unlikely to make the starting XV.
