Mattie: Hawkeye saga will have no bearing

Galway minor hurling manager Mattie Murphy
Mattie Murphy doesn't expect last year's controversial All-Ireland MHC semi-final between Galway and Limerick to have a bearing when the teams renew their rivalry on August 17.

Last year's clash was overshadowed by a Hawkeye malfunction in the opening minutes which cost the Treaty County dearly as Galway progressed to the All-Ireland final after extra-time.

But speaking after his side's comfortable quarter-final victory over Antrim yesterday, the veteran Galway manager stressed: "There's an All-Ireland title at stake. What happened last year, as far as we're concerned, has nothing whatsoever to do with it."

The Gort man admitted that the Tribesmen need to improve if they're to repeat last year's victory over the back-to-back Munster champions.

"There are a lot of things that you wouldn't be overly impressed with. We were very slow out of the stalls. It took us a long time to put any kind of a gap between the teams," he said.

"You'd be disappointed with your six starting forwards. They didn't sparkle, not to what we believe they can do. It gives everyone a bit of food for thought.

"There'll be nobody too complacent going into training on Tuesday night."
