Galway golfer Padraig Hynes wouldn't look out of place at this weekend's British Open after he scored a hole-in-one at a hurling club fundraiser in Loughrea Golf Club last week.

The 30-year-old from Bullaun (Joe Cooney country!) won a brand new Mini Cooper car worth €18,000 for his amazing feat on the final day of the three-day Am-Am in support of Kilimordaly hurling club. Padraig, who was part of the Sarsfields hurling club team along with his father Pat, Eamon Cleary and John Manicle, plays off a five handicap, but had played off a three handicap before suffering a shoulder injury a few years ago.

"I pitched it about six or seven feet past the hole and it spun back, but I couldn't see it," he explained to the Connacht Tribune.

"I told the lads that I thought it had gone very close. Then John said he thought it had gone in the hole. We started running.

"I said it was the nicest seven iron I ever hit. As we got closer to the green, I saw there was no ball on the green. Then we started roaring and shouting and lads came over from the 18th tee. It's been a crazy week. It really hasn't sunk in yet."
