Davy Fitzgerald has described Tipperary's NHL semi-final display as "awesome".

The Premier County roared to a seven-point victory over the All-Ireland champions at the Gaelic Grounds yesterday and the losing manager was magnanimous in defeat:

"If I'm totally honest I thought Tipperary were awesome - their use of the ball, their scores were unbelievable," he enthuses in The Irish Examiner.

"I tell you, Tipp are going to be a serious team come the championship. That is what I learned outside there. They were telling me during the week that Tipp are in trouble.

"If they are with scores like that and a performance like that, fair play to them.

"Tipp definitely had a bit more hunger. I thought we battled away, we scored 2-17, something in that bracket. We had 14 wides. There are definitely areas we have to work on.

"We won't be in the top three or four with a performance like that in the championship. Before the league started I said it had been a massive, massive six or seven months.

"I knew it was going to take its toll, people thought I was playing mind games earlier on in the year. You have to 100% if you are going to win games like that. Tipperary had the bite and drive, you could see that.

"Their tackling was unreal and some of their passes were fantastic. They probably could have had another goal or two. My hats off to Tipperary, they're ones to watch. It is going to be a great league final."
