The Late John Lyons The death has occurred at his residence of John Lyons, Ruslaura, Cloonacastle, Ballinrobe. He was in his 74th year and had been unwell for some time. John spent a number of years in America and also worked at the Agricultural Institute, Creagh, Ballinrobe and the E.S.B. A lively and humourous personality, he was a highly regarded figure in the area. Endowed with no mean skill as a footballer, he was the captain of the first team to bring the Flanagan Cup to Ballinrobe CBS in 1951 He distinguished himself afterwards with Ballinrobe, winning a county junior championship medal in 1958. His remains were renewed from St.Joseph's' Funeral Home to St.Mary's' Church, Ballinrobe, and members of Ballinrobe GAA club formed a guard of honour. The burial took place in the New Cemetery, on Wednesday, July 18, after Requiem Mass celebrated by Monsignor Thomas Shannon, P.P Large and representative crowds attended on both days. John is mourned by his wife, Mary, sons, Sean, Damian and Joseph, daughters, Maureen, Patricia and Geri, brother, Tom, sisters.
