The late Dan Fitzpatrick Mr Dan Fitzpatrick of 6 Conor Park, Ballynahinch, who died peacefully at his home on 29 May 2007, was the head of Chemistry Department at the Assumption Grammar School, Ballynahinch. He was 57. He is survived by his wife, Roisin, sons Donal (Drumnaness), Rory and Niall (Ballynahinch), daughter Kathy (Ballynahinch), daughter in law Brenda and grandchildren Peter, Erin and Roin (Drumnaness). Also his mother Annie (Drumaroad), sisters Ann, Mary, Attracta, Dympna and Siobhan and brothers Tom and Raymond. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald. Mr Fitzpatrick began his teaching career in science at St Colman's Secondary School, Ballynahinch in September 1973. He was a highly respected member of the community and throughout his life was involved in many activities, including Ballynahinch Lions Club and Ballynahinch Inter-Church Group. He was a member of the Fiance and Building Committees of all churches in Magheradroll Parish, a member of the Board of Governors of St Patrick's Primary School, a member of the Youth Club Committee and inaugural chairperson of St John's Drumnaquoile. He organised sponsored walks and examinations officer and lighting and video coordinator for Assumption Grammar School productions. He was a keen sportsman and was a member of Drumnaness Gaelic Club, and also a member of the 1971 QUB team which won the Sigerson Cup against Cork. His popularity was reflected in the very large attendance at his funeral, which took place to St Patrick's Church Ballynahinch. Canon Gerard McCrory officiated, assisted by Monsignor Hamil.
