The late Michael Henihan There was deep sadness in the area as the news spread of the unexpected passing of Michael Henihan, of Knockdoe. Michael had a quiet and unassuming personality that made him hugely popular among many people of the area. He had been a lifelong member of Lackagh Pioneer Total Abstinence Association and was the proud holder of a Gold Pioneer Pin. In his youth, Michael Henihan was a key member of Knockdoe hurling team and was part of the negotiating team that led to the amalgamation of all hurling teams in the parish in 1956 when Turlough came together as a parish outfit. Michael was proud to see him brother Tommie win a Galway Senior Hurling Championship medal in 1956 after the club amalgamated. He worked with an oil company for many years and travelled throughout much of the country, and his pleasing personality made him a likeable person. His interests were sincere and varied. Michael was also a long serving Blood Donor and had received a special award for his ongoing support of the blood transfusion service - to save the lives of others. A great family man and kind neighbour, Michael will be sadly missed and fondly remembered in the area. The remains of Michael Henihan were removed from LAckagh Mortuary Chapel to the Church of Our Lady of Knock, Lackagh. Following Concelebrated Requiem Mass, celebrated by Very Rev Fr Paddy Henihan, PP Oughtered, Fr Mick Goaley, Glenamaddy, Very Rev Fr John D Flannery, PP Lackagh. Very Rev Fr Brendan Kelly, PP Spiddal, Very Rev Fr Hughie Loftus, PP Currandulla, Very Rev Michael McLoughlin, PP Moycullen, Fr Tommy Marrinan, Chaplain, UCHG, Fr Michael Screene, MSC Galway and Very Rev Fr Martin Moran, PP Killanin burial took place in Lackagh Cemetery. Michael is survived by his wife, Phil; sons, Martin and Phonsie; daughters Majella, Bernadette, Stella and Dolores; brother Tommie, Martin and Fr PAddy; sister, Mary; in laws, nephews, nieces and a very large circle of friends of relatives and friends.
