Walsh, Thomas

The late Thomas Walsh The general district was very deeply saddened and shocked on the sudden and untimely death of Mr Tom Walsh of Garrynagry in Killanin. The deceased was very widely know and popular in the community and his passing will leave a huge void within family circles and in the general district. Tom Walsh was especially associated with football activity in his native parish in his younger days and was widely regarded as a talented and skillful footballer, who enjoyed great success with Killanin teams in the 1960's and 1970's when the club fielded fine teams who captured County honours. He took an active interest in the various community events. Over the years, he worked in many well-known establishments, such as Corbett's in Galway City, Joyce's of Oughterard and Oughterard Gold Club, where he was always helpful and well regarded. Tom was a quiet, unassuming personality who made many friends. Large numbers congregated for the removal of his remains from his home to the nearby Killanin church and for the burial ceremonies which took place at the local cemetery following the celebration of Requiem Mass. All expressed their sincere sympathy and deep regret to the bereaved family. Many people were greatly moved on both occasions as a loyal friend of Killanin was laid to rest, a short distance from his birth-place. Tom was sixty-one years of age and is survived by his wife, Teresa, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
