The late Micheal Finn The death occurred suddenly - while cycling to Mass - of Mr Michael Finn, Castleblakeney, and formerly from Lisheen, Ballymacward. Michael, or Miko as he was affectionately known, was in his 87the year and was throughout his life a respected and hard-working farmer. In his youth he was a talented hurler with the Ballymacward hurlers and was the last surviving member of the county Championship winning team of 1940. Throughout his life he was a Gaelic Games follower and went up and down the country to follow Galway teams in action. He was also a man who loved his game of cards, especially the game of 25. His remains reposed at his residence before being removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Church (Caltra). The burial took place at the adjoining cemetery after Concelebration of Mass of the Resurrection. The concelebrants included - Rev Fr Michael Donnelly, CC Caltra; Very Rev Fr Sean Slattery, PP, Ballymacward; Rev Fr Brendan Dunning, SMA, Claregalway; Very Rev Fr Nicholas Murray, PP, Kilconnell; Very Rev Canon Liam Kitt, Mountbellew; Very Rev Fr James Roynayne, PP, Clifden; Very Rev Fr Christopher McCormack, PP, Fohenagh; Rev Fr John McCormack, CC, Moylough. Fr Donnelly in the Homily of the Mass spoke of the forthcoming celebration of 60 years of marriage for Miko and Mary Kate in February 2007 and spoke of his great faith and love of his family. Family members participated in the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and Offertory Procession while the Caltra Church adult choir enhanced a beautiful ceremony with music and song. He is survived by his wife Mary Kate; sons Martin (Galway), Gerry (Gort), Frank (Lisheen), Noel (Castleblakeney); daughters, Mary (Dublin) Mrs Bernadette Mannion (Cranmore); sister, Mrs Mary Ellen Nolan, Lehenagh, Castleblakeney; brothers, Jack (England) and Tom (Dublin); sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
